Russian Agricultural Division: buckwheat and sunflower sowings are going up
PAVA agricultural arm will increase planted area for sunflower 2.5 times and triple the sowings of buckwheat
BARNAUL, RUSSIA, April 01, 2009 /Agriculture PR News/ -- In the upcoming sowing campaign Russian Agricultural Division will increase planted acreage for buckwheat and sunflower, the company officials say. These crops provide good margins and according to the latest market outlook, domestic demand for them will remain on a high level throughout 2009 season.
Sunflower and buckwheat are grown by RAD farms of the Altay Territory, where it is planned to raise their sowings 2.5 and 3 times respectively. RAD is purchasing elite seed material to ensure maximum quality of the output, and upgrades machinery in Allac Ltd. of the Kamensky District with more tractors and precision seed drills.
"RAD is set to increase overall output this year, as the weather is likely to be conducive and there is good moisture content in the fields. For all cereal crops we hope to achieve average yield increase of
minimum 10-15 %", said A. Kalashnikov, RAD CEO.
Russian Agricultural Division was incorporated in 2008, as a subsidiary of major Russian grain processor PAVA. The company acquires and cultivates land in different Russian regions, with the goal to become a leading producer of high-value agricultural feedstock for supplying domestic and overseas markets.
Although supplementary crops sowings expand, wheat will be the main cereal which is used primarily for processing activities of the parent. Currently PAVA processes 400,000 tonnes of wheat grain per year, and plans to increase this capacity to approximately 1,000,000 tonnes when the deep processing plant Grainvest is launched.
