Russian Agricultural Division: preparation for spring sowings
RAD farms significantly invested in modern machinery and maximized supplies of elite seeds on the doorstep of spring sowing campaign
BARNAUL, RUSSIA, February 27, 2009 /Agriculture PR News/ -- In the upcoming season of spring sowing campaign, Russian Agricultural Division will make an active start of large-scale farming operations, drawing on the accumulated resources of up-to-date machinery, professional management team and agronomist expertise. In 2008, the cultivation area stood at approximately 30,000 ha, and this time RAD plans to at least double it. Overall, the company foresees gradual boost of the sowings in the course of 5 years.
Farms of the company have carried out consistent preparatory programme. Identification of machinery defects followed by appropriate repair works is proceeding according to the schedule. RAD has made significant investment in its fleet of aggregates, which is now complete with highly efficient soil cultivating and seeding complexes. In 2008, independent seed production was launched, and to date all the farms have maximized their supplies of this prime-quality material.
The major part of crops is intended for providing feedstock security of the company's processing plants, and the other part will be distributed on the domestic and overseas markets.
One of the instruments enhancing profitability is modern scheme of crop rotation, based on leading western approach coupled with in-depth knowledge of local conditions.
"Improvement of yields is the key issue for us. RAD is operating in the regions where the soil abounds in nutrient riches, but has reduced productivity due to years of neglect. A thorough research has been done, and we have an extensive action plan for achieving higher-than-average levels", says Alexander Kalashnikov, RAD CEO.
About RAD: Russian Agricultural Division is subsidiary of major grain processing company PAVA. It was incorporated in 2008, consolidating PAVA's agricultural enterprises to expand their farming operations as the basis for a vertically integrated agroindustrial holding. As of January 1, 2009 RAD controlled over 160,000 ha of land.
